Well, there are many reasons why I would love to pursue a career in cardiology. Beyond the job security, great pay, and the amazing feeling of helping others my biggest reason towards wanting to become a Cardiologist is because of my family. My parents emigrated from Egypt in 1988 right after my father completed medical school. Coming to America as an immigrant he basically was forced to retake medical school as his previous credits that he completed in Egypt did not transfer. So I was born in Chicago while my father completed medical school for the second time at the University of Chicago. Knowing that my father went through all this trouble in order to achieve his dream made me gain a lot of respect not only for my father, but for the profession. As I grew up, I endured many hardships watching family members pass away due to heart attacks and heart disease. Unfortunately, I never met either of my grandfathers as they also have passsed from heart attacks. This made me realize that heart disease was not only the number one cause of death in America, but in my family as well. I feel like the world needs more Cardiologists and I want to help families to avoid enduring the pain of losing a loved one that I suffered many times growing up. So why do I want to be a Cardiologist? Because in my mind, its one of the most important, most rewarding jobs in the world.
